Frank Bruno announced that he was planning on making a return to boxing at the age of 54.

Speaking on ITV's This Morning show on Monday, the former WBC heavyweight champion stated that he has been working out every day, and plans on making a comeback despite his age.

"I’ve been in the gym all the time, that’s why I want to come back into boxing," said Bruno, adding that "I haven't got a choice", after he was asked by presenter Phillip Schofield whether he thought a return was a good idea.

Recently, Bruno was pictured working out in the gym of former WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton, and the images were shared on social media by Hatton.

Bruno also said "I can't sit down and let these so-called promoters say Anthony Joshua can knock me out in two rounds when I'm not even dead".

The 54-year-old spoke about how he has lived with bipolar disorder in recent years, adding that the medication that he received as treatment had severe side-effects: "they made me suicidal. They mess up my head. I can't sleep. I have so much energy".

There is, as of yet, no clarification from the British Boxing Board of Control as to whether or not Bruno would be allowed to fight, but he would need to pass a number of physical and medical tests to do so.
