Ex-Leyton Orient boss and former Bolton and West Ham midfielder Kevin Nolan has been appointed Notts County manager.

The League 2 side have been without a manager since the start of the year following the sacking of  John Sheridan. 

Their league form of late has been poor, having lost their last 10 games in-a-row. Speaking at a press conference today, Nolan reaffirmed his ambition to steer the club to safety.

"We have a squad capable of staying in this league," he said. "I am aware of what I am walking into.

"I feel I can improve things. I wouldn't be sitting here as manager otherwise. It will be difficult but I have never been one to shy away from a fight.

"My time at Leyton Orient did not put me off, it has made me more hungry to be successful."

He added: "We have to make sure we are still a League Two club in May."

The club sit one point above the relegation zone and new club owner and chairman Alan Hardy said that he had full faith in his new appointment. 

"He is an outstanding leader and we need immediate success [...] I understand the frustration of the fans and I have conveyed it to the players. The players need to rise to this challenge.

"Kevin shares my ambition and desire to have young players come through into the first team."

Of his takeover bid he said: "We have a 1, 3 and 5 year plan. We want the debts cleared in 3 years but if it takes 5 then so be it. I am here for the long haul.

"If this deal did not happen there was a good chance the club would have become extinct."
