Richard, over your five years of writing the book was there anything that surprised you about the GAA and its influence on Ireland socially and politically?
Richard McElligott is the author of a new book on the formative years of perhaps the greatest dynasty in Irish sport: Kerry football. Forging a Kingdom: The GAA in Kerry 1884 to 1934, covers the factors that transformed Kerry into the football stronghold it is today and Richard spoke on Sunday’s Off the Ball to discuss his work and what he learned about the GAA, and Ireland, over the 5 years he spent writing the book.
