Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney was left out of Manchester United's squad for the game with Swansea because he asked for a transfer.

Speaking after the game, Ferguson said that Rooney was frustrated after being substituted regularly and claimed that Rooney was not in the right frame of mind to play today.

Reports had emerged that Rooney spoke to Ferguson in his office two weeks ago and explained that he intended to leave Old Trafford.
