Turkish giants Fenerbahce have confirmed that one of their players was shot at in an attack today.

Midfielder Mehmet Topal, who has almost 50 caps for the Turkey national side, was returning home after training with the Istanbul club when the car he was travelling in was shot at.

Fortunately the 29-year-old did not suffer any injuries due to his car's bullet-proof glass.

In a statement, the club said: "This was a terrorist attack. We condemn these armed attacks on our players and club and hope justice will prevail."

It's not the first firearm related attack that Fenerbahce has suffered. In April, the team bus was shot at after a match against Rizespor as the team travelled to the airport.

The driver was taken to hospital but no players were injured in that attack.

Former Manchester United players Robin van Persie, Nani and ex-Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles are current squad members.
