Defending champion Roger Federer has breezed into the second round of Wimbledon.

The Swiss maestro and defending Wimbledon men's singles champion dropped just five games in beating Victor Hanescu of Romania in straight sets (6-3 6-2 6-0).

Women's second seed Victoria Azarenka is through, but only after suffering a horrific fall in her match, which required lengthy treatment on her knee.

It was not a good day for the British challengers as Elena Baltacha and senior grand slam debutant Kyle Edmund are out.

Later today, Andy Murray takes to Centre Court to begin his campaign against Benjamin Becker. 

The Scot is seeded second for the tournament.
