Former Formula 1 test driver Maria De Villota has been found dead in a Spanish hotel room.
The 33-year-old lost her right eye in an accident during testing last year.
Since then the daughter of ex-F1 driver Emilio De Villota had become a member of the FIA's Women In Motorsport commission.
The Spaniard was one of very few women who had got behind the wheel of an F1 car in a sport which has not shed its reputation for sexism. However she had never taken part in a race or qualifying.
It is believed that she was touring her new autobiography when she was found dead in the southern city of Seville.
Her death is not believed to be suspicious.
She was testing a Marussia at Duxford Aerodrome last year when she suffered the injury which ended her motorsport career.
