The Republic of Ireland Women's team return to the pitch later today as they continue their path to try and reach Euro 2017.

Sue Ronan's side face Spain this afternoon at 2pm in Tallaght Stadium. After one win from two games, including an away win in Portugal, Ronan's side are looking to finish in the top two to have any chance to reach the tournament in the Netherlands next year. They currently lie in third place in Group 2.

With all the group winners and six second place teams guaranteed their place in the expanded tournament a positive result today against Spain is crucial to have any change of progressing to the tournament.

The Spanish qualified to the World Cup earlier this year and are the top seeds in Ireland's group. They won their only game in qualification so far, defeating Ireland's conquerors Finland 2-1 in Helsinki.

Midfielder Diane Caldwell spoke yesterday ahead of the game and she hopes the men's side qualifying for Euro 2016 and spur the women to do the same. "It gives up major inspiration and a lot of confidence too. Seeing the pool of players they have and what the can do with their team and get out of each other gives us massive inspiration."
