Manchester United are through to the last eight in the EFL Cup as they got the better of local rivals Man City in tonight's League Cup tie at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho's side advanced to the quarter-finals after a battling 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola's City.

Juan Mata's goal in the 54th minute was enough for United to secure victory over a second-string City side.

A pass across the box from Zlatan Ibrahimovic eventually reached Mata and he found the back of the net with an accurate finish.

Meanwhile, West Ham and Southampton are also through to the quarter-finals with wins over Chelsea and Sunderland respectively.

Ireland goalkeeper Darren Randolph started in goal for West Ham in place of Adrian as they secured a 2-1 win over Chelsea at the London Olympic Stadium.

Cheikhou Kouyate's header was followed up by an Edimilson Fernandes goal to put the Hammers in control before Gary Cahill scored a late consolation goal.

Southampton were 1-0 winners over Sunderland at St Mary's.
