Edgar Davids was part of Louis van Gaal's young homegrown Ajax side which went all the way to winning the 1995 Champions League title.

But how surprised is he with his former manager's up-and-down time with Manchester United.

The former Netherlands, Juventus and Tottenham legend spoke to Off The Ball's Richie McCormack at the launch of the International Champions Cup tie between Barcelona and Celtic, which will take place at Aviva Stadium on July 30th.

"Yes, I thought that after two seasons, the team would be further in their development. But on the other hand, he brought on some youngsters I have never heard of and they're exceptional [with] great talent," he said.

"Again for him, as for [Luis] Enrique [at Barcelona] - and even Enrique won the Champions League, a league and a cup and he gets criticism- and think about being at Man United and not winning anything. So it's the same old ball game."
