Eddie O'Sullivan believes Leinster need to fix their defensive issues or face major problems in the European Champions Cup this season.

Leo Cullen's side beat Edinburgh away by a 33-20 scoreline in the Guinness Pro 12 on Friday night.

Although it means the province get back to winning ways in terms of results, ex-Ireland head coach Eddie has concerns about one aspect of their play.

"It was a bizarre game because they were 26-8 up at half-time and they were only six points up going into the last bit of the game and then they scored again," Eddie told Off The Ball.

"So there was this big fallow period in the middle where they just really did nothing and let Edinburgh back into the game."

Eddie also feels they also had a "nightmare defensively" in that portion of the game.

"They had a shocking number of missed tackles again in the low 80%. You've just got to wonder on the defensive side of the football against the bigger and better teams in Europe, if they don't start fixing that, they're going to get probably chopped up a fair bit," he said.

"They're not going to get through the season against the big guns if they're not going to be able to shut up shop when they have to. I think that's a concern."
