Dublin dreams of a historic double have been dashed as Cork came out victorious from a thrilling game, winning 1-24 to 1-19 at the end of an incident filled 70 minutes. Unfortunately the game was marred by controversial refereeing as a harsh red card for Dublin’s Noel O’Reilly changed the shape of the game and set Cork on the path to victory when, until then, the sides had been going blow for blow and the game appeared on course to beome a Croke Park classic.

The teams were level 15 times throughout the game and the sides looked inseparably matched until Ryan O’Dwyer was sent from the field for a second yellow card for what seemed an unintentional collision but was adjudged by referee James Owens to have been a late challenge.

Cork finally shook off Dublin’s resistance with 10 minutes to go and a goal from Patrick Horgan with less than 5 minutes left was the killer blow to Anthony Daly’s side.

Dublin’s Laim Rushe was lucky not to see red as he seemed to lash out blindly and catch Patrick Horgan behind him. Rushe was shown a yellow and the decision to allow him continue in the game seemed generous.

Cork will face the winners of next weekend’s semi-final, between Limerick and Clare.
