Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is urging supporters to allow Angel di Maria the chance to settle in at the club.

After a bright start to life at Old Trafford, the Argentine has struggled to live up to his £60m price-tag since his move from Real Madrid last summer.

Van Gaal says it's a situation he's aware of and has called for patience.

"It is more a big surprise when he adapts as quick as possible," said the Dutchman.

"Also in the Netherlands or Spain or Germany I had the same experience with players.

"We have to give him time."
