A late goal from Everton’s loan starlet Gerard Deulofeu saw the spoils shared at the Emirates, as Arsenal and Everton played a highly entertaining 1-1 draw that saw both sides desperately chasing the winner until the final whistle.
Despite a high tempo, attacking game plan from both sides it took until the 80th minute for the deadlock to be broken. Mesut Ozil scored the goal, finishing off after Olivier Giroud failed to capitalise on a Theo Walcott pull back in the Everton box.
It had the hallmark of a title winner’s goal, the type that turns 1 point into 3 with no real right. But Deulofeu made sure Everton got what they deserved from the game he latched on to a Ross Barkley cross and buried the ball into the roof of the net from ten yards.
In keeping with the habit of the fame neither side was happy to settle for a point, and both came forward with purpose. Romelu Lukaku barged his way through the Arsenal half before a slightly sloppy touch on the edge of the box had him leaning back and sending his shot over the bar.
Olivier Giroud tried a similarly speculative effort in the dying moments for Arsenal and saw his strike smash off the upright.
