Tomorrow marks the Detroit Lions' 74th Thanksgiving Day game, a tradition that has become as American as apple pie.
But can they end their poor recent record and claim victory against the Green Bay Packers?
Off The Ball spoke to Detroit Free Press columnist Drew Sharp to find out.
"They've lost seven of their last eight. There was a movement afoot to have the Thanksgiving Day game taken away from the Detroit Lions because it had become such an embarrasment. Ford Motor Company owns the Detroit Lions and they were one of the original sponsors when NFL first got on national television. For that reason the NFL are beholden to the Ford family. That's why they have never tried to move the Detroit Lions from that Thanksgiving Day.
But the Lions are top of their Division with a 6 - 5 record ahead of tomorrow's Thanksgiving Day game against the Green Bay Packers who are without their starting quarter-back in Aaron Rogers.
"It is a game that the Detroit Lions should win. If they don't win, it will go down as one of their more embarrassing Thanksgiving Day moments. They could do something foolish to snatch defeat from victory," said Sharp who warned that the Lions have lost their last two games, which does not bode well for tomorrow.
But Sharp believes the absence of Green Bay's Rogers and the availability of Detroit's Calvin 'Megatron' Johnson gives the Lions' an "advantage".
Surely they won't blow it?
