We are now two days into the European Athletic Championships in Zurich and thus far there have been mixed results for the Irish.

Former sprint hurdler Derval O'Rourke joined us in studio to look back on the action so far and preview Irish athletes who still have events to come.

Two-time European Cross Country champion Fionnuala Britton finished eighth in the final of the 10,000 metres as Great Britain's Jo Pavey won gold.

"I think she'll definitely be disappointed. I think with her calibre as an athlete, she should be doing better than eighth. I think she would have wanted a medal and I think she was quite honest about that afterwards. For a double cross country champion, she should be better than that," said Derval, who also believes it is an intriguing move that Britton is making her marathon debut at European level and also thought Pavey's win at age 41 was "inspirational".

She also said she was gutted for Thomas Barr who was a huge medal hope in the 400 metres hurdles but missed out on a final place

Derval also looked ahead to 2013 World Champion race walker Rob Heffernan who takes part in the 50K walk on Friday.

"For me, it's either win or nothing. He's absolutely capable of winning and adding a European title to his world title. It'll be easier said than done, but I think he can do it," said Derval, who also revealed that he is a decent runner off-season and also previewed the Men's 100 metre final.

She also gave her take on Britian's 2012 Olympic gold medalist and distance runner Mo Farah who has had a troubled build up to the European Athletic Championships and missed the recent Commonwealth Games.
