Davy Russell had four rides on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival, but he is still waiting for his first win.

The Cork jockey had three third place finishes, including on 25/1 outsider Ordinary World, in the Arkle Trophy.

Russell has five rides on Wednesday at Prestbury Park, hoping to ride his first winner of the 2017 Festival, to add to his 17 previous wins. The Youghal rider has won at least once at the Festival each year since 2006.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, ahead of the second day of The Festival, Russell said Tuesday's disappointments will have no bearing on how he rides on Wednesday.

"That's over and done with. A brand new day now - another go. That's the beauty of being a jockey. If you have a couple of rides over here, you know you can get another go".

One of Russell's rides on Wednesday, is Top Gamble in the Queen Mother Champion Chase. He told Oisin Langan, that despite that race being the feature of the day, it will get no more attention than any of his other rides.

"I'll try an keep the thought process to a minimum if I can. I try not to complicate things. It's still a two-mile race. It was the same distance as the Arkle yesterday, and it's the same distance as other races later in the week".

Russell's first ride on Wednesday is aboard Whisper in the RSA Novices' Chase.
