European Ryder Cup golf captain Darren Clarke has announced his fifth vice-captain.

Sam Torrance joins Thomas Bjorn, Padraig Harrington, Paul Lawrie and Ian Poulter.

Torrance captained Europe in 2002 at the Belfry.

"Sam’s been a very good friend of mine for a long time. He was a wonderful captain to play under at The Belfry," said Clarke.

The tournament against the United States starts at the Hazeltine National course in Minnesota in September.

The 41st Ryder Cup begins on September 30th, with Europe defending the 2014 title won under Paul McGinley's stewardship.
