Ireland coach Joe Schmidt has made it clear that he has no issue with Ulster centre Darren Cave despite the player venting his frustration at a lack of game time with Ireland.

Cave was qouted as saying he was not sure if his face fitted in and that he cannot understand why people might say he is not an international standard players as he is never had a good crack at it.

"Unfortunately for me, internationally, the last few years haven't gone that well and sometimes you wonder 'does the face not fit?'" said the 26-year-old before appearing to imply bias:

"If you don't know what I mean ask Roger Wilson how he has one cap and Jamie Heaslip has 60 and two Lions tours."

The player, who has five Ireland caps, went on to say that Schmidt has given him a couple of things to work on and he thinks he has shown he can cause problems for opposition teams consistently this season.

But Schmidt attempted to brush aside the controversy generated by Cave's comments.

He revealed that Cave was in contact this morning to express disappointment with how his comments were portrayed.
