Nate Diaz has been confirmed as Conor McGregor's opponent for UFC 196.

UFC President Dana White has revealed that there were numerous fighters who wanted to fight McGregor but the list does not include Jose Aldo. McGregor defeated the Brazilian star in 13 seconds last December, and White revealed overnight on ESPN's Sportscenter that Aldo was unwilling to take a rematch.

"There was a long list of people who said they wanted to fight Conor McGregor. We called Jose Aldo. Jose Aldo turned the fight down. We called Frankie Edgar. Frankie Edgar turned the fight down. Those were two guys that everyone was talking about."

Despite Aldo's and Edgar's refusal to take the fight, one man who wanted to face Conor McGregor was Donald Cerrone. 'Cowboy' lost to Rafael dos Anjos in a UFC Lightweight Title last December. White revealed that Cerrone "absolutely accepted the fight. would love to take the fight".

In the end the UFC decided to give Diaz the fight with McGregor. "We felt that this was the fight to make and the fight the people wanted to see."
