On Day 1 of the Tour De France, Dan Martin has finished the best of the Irish after today's individual time trials in Utrecht.

He completed the course in 16 minutes and 13 seconds, just 3 seconds quicker than Nicolas Roche.

Sam Bennett was also in action, coming home in 16 minutes and 44 seconds.

The fastest of the day was Australia's Rohan Dennis clocking a time 14 minutes and 56 seconds.

2014 champion Chris Froome was 39th, 50 seconds adrift of the leader, but ahead of a number of his rivals.
