"It will be played between November 15 and January 15 at the latest. If it's played between November 15 and the end of December, that is when the weather is most favorable."

This morning, FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke claimed that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be moved from summer to the winter.

However, it quickly emerged that he had seriously jumped the gun as FIFA moved to deny that a decision had been made on the timing of the controversial tournament.

On tonight's show, Football writer Philippe Auclair confirmed that no decision has been made on the timing of the World Cup and added that, in any case, Valcke has no influence on the issue because he is not a member of the FIFA Executive Committee who will make the decision, preferably after this summer's World Cup.

Indeed, Auclair wondered whether Valcke's comments were part of a wider game within the political web at FIFA HQ with elections looming in 2015.

"Obviously the post of Secretary General is a very important one. Sepp Blatter himself was Secretary General of FIFA before he was elected President. It's often seen as a possible springboard up the organization. This has led some people to speculate whether this declaration by Vaclke was a means to position himself very clearly and people are thinking, has he got ideas about putting himself forward for the 2015 Presidential election and that this was a way to bring some publicity."

Valcke has already courted controversy in the past. Two years ago in a publicized letter, he seemingly admitted that Qatar "bought" the 2022 World Cup before back-tracking, while he was released as FIFA marketing director in 2006 after a New York court found him guilty of negotiating sponsorship with VISA when FIFA already had an existing deal with Mastercard.
