Former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has left New York Red Bulls.

The Australia international, who helped his team win a first AFC Asian Cup on Saturday, has had his contract mutually terminated.

There is speculation that Cahill could be on his way back to the Premier League, but there is no sense of urgency, as free agents can be signed past the transfer deadline.

Cahill scored three goals in all competitions for Red Bulls in the 2014 season.
