Bryan Keane has finished in 40th place overall in the Men's Triathlon in Rio.

The Corkman completed the Fort Copacabana course in a time of 1:52:09.

Britain's Alaistair Brownlee took the gold medal after successfully defending his Olympic title, with his younger brother Jonathan finishing in second place - improving on his bronze from London 2012.

Keane was 47th after the swim section, followed by 45th on the transition from bike to run and then climbing up the order during that last leg.

The 35th-year-old missed London 2012, two years after being hit by a car on the Cork-Cobh Road, at a time when he was on course to qualify.
