European Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he expects the association's member clubs to be compensated, should the Qatar 2022 World Cup go ahead in winter.

A FIFA taskforce has proposed the tournament be staged across November and December, in a move that has been backed by UEFA and the other confederations.

But Rummenigge says that will come at a cost.

He said: "The European clubs and leagues cannot be expected to bear the costs for such rescheduling. We expect the clubs to be compensated for the damage that a final decision would cause."

Among the dissenting voices, is that of FAI Chief Executive John Delaney, who says the entire episode has been "damaging" to FIFA.

FIFA's executive committee will have the final decision on the tournament's staging next month.
