Ireland's Ciara Mageean has won bronze in the 1500m this afternoon at the European Championships in Amsterdam.
She recorded a time of 4.33.78 to finish behind the winner, Poland's Angelika Cichocka and silver medalist Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands.
"Is it bad that I’m a little bit disappointed?" Mageean told the Irish Times after the race.
"But it’s a fantastic place to be, a little bit disappointed with a bronze medal, in my first senior championship proper, ever. I’m ecstatic, with a little tinge of disappointment, but I think that’s testament to an athlete who wants to do even better than I have.
"But that’s my first senior race in an Irish vest in five years. I felt going into that final I always had a medal chance. That’s a good feeling but also a nervous feeling.
"It was a messy race, but that’s championship racing, and I’m a little annoyed I didn’t have a clean run on the back straight, because I know there’s more in me, and I’m not even tired.
"But that’s championship racing and I love it, getting in there, fighting for position."
