Christy O'Connor Senior has passed away, aged 91.

O'Connor's death comes just over four months after his nephew Christy Junior died in Spain.

The Galway native played in ten Ryder Cups for Great Britain and Ireland. That record has only since been beaten by Nick Faldo, when the team became Europe.

O'Connor was best known as "Himself", and competed in The Open Championship 29 times throughout his career, which included ten top-ten finishes. In 1965, O'Connor finished in a tie for second place, two shots behind Peter Thomson.

Along with an imperious Ryder Cup record, O'Connor competed 15 times for Ireland in the World Cup of Golf, and was part of the winning team in 1958 with Harry Bradshaw.

On the Senior's Tour, O'Connor was a trailblazer. He won the PGA Seniors Championship a record six times. He was also a two-time winner of World Seniors Chmapionship in the 1970s.

In 2009, O'Connor was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
