England have axed seven players from the Rugby World Cup squad.

Rugby league import Sam Burgess has survived the cut, as has Danny Cipriani.

But Saracens winger Chris Ashton, who has 19 international tries to his name, and scrum-half Lee Dickson are among the casualties.

It leaves 39 players fighting for 31 places in Stuart Lancaster's final squad.
