Celebrations throughout Chile after Saturday's historic Copa America victory have been marred by the deaths of three fans.

Alexis Sanchez scored the winning goal in the penalty shootout over Argentina on front of a packed partisan Santiago crowd. As fans took to the streets of the capital to celebrate the victory, two fans were ran over by van driver according to Bio-Bio Radio.

The Chilean station also reported looting in stores around Santiago and the rest of the country on Saturday night. In Quilicura, a third man was killed trying to stop fans shooting guns celebrating the win.

The Copa America win was Chile's first in its 99 year history. The triumph means they will represent South America in the Confederations Cup in 2017.
