The CEO of the Irish Sports Council says revelations about doping in athletics are astounding.
However John Treacy says he is not surprised by the details revealed by the Sunday Times in an expose yesterday.
The newspaper claims doping on a large scale has been occurring in the sport's biggest endurance events.
The data, which was kept at the International Association of Athletics Federations' (IAAF) Monaco headquarters, was reportedly released by a whistle-blower.
It reveals that as many as 55 gold medals have been awarded to athletes with suspicious results.
Mr Treacy - an Olympic silver medallist - spoke about the subject with Dr Ciara Kelly on today's Right Hook.
"I suppose using my own background of being an athlete, you can see things emerge," he said.
"Anytime you see countries dominate a particular event... it does raise eyebrows, and we have seen that," he added.
Earlier today the Irish track and field athlete David Gillick spoke on Newstalk Lunchtime to discuss the issue of doping in athletics. You can listen back here.
