Clare's Cathal O'Connor has had his red card rescinded and will be free to line out against Kerry after a successful appeal.

O'Connor saw red in an ill-tempered match against Roscommon on Sunday, which saw a busy day for referee Padraig Hughes and his notebook.

The Banner man saw red for a high tackle on Niall Hughes, and had originally been slated for a one match ban, which would have seen him miss the historic quarter-final against Kerry.

However, on Wednesday evening he was cleared after Clare successfully argued his case to the GAA’s Central Hearings Committee.

A statement from the GAA noted that while the tackle wasn't worthy of a red card, and instead "disclosed a less serious Infraction (Rough play) which warranted a yellow card."

Speaking to The 42, manager Colm Collins said: "we’re thrilled with that [decision]. It would have been a fierce injustice if he was prevented from playing. We wouldn’t have gone after it if it was a deserved [red card]."

Kerry and Clare will come face to face at Croke Park on Sunday, and all the action will be live on Off the Ball with a star-studded commentary team. Dave McIntyre will be joined by Kieran McGeeney and Anthony Moyles to analyse what will be a massive day for fans of Clare football, while Mossy Quinn will keep you up to minute with the view from the sideline.
