The retirement of Cathal Pendred from Mixed Martial Arts came as a surprise to many yesterday. 

Pendred lost his last two fights, but ended his career with 17 wins from 22 fights, including four wins in the UFC. Pendred was part of the famous SBG stable and trained under John Kavanagh. 

His team mate and Interim UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor praised his friends commitment to the sport after he announced his retirement. 

McGregor wrote that his friend "deserves endless respect" and called him an "Irish Warrior".
