Clarke Carlisle's family are hopeful he can make a full recovery from injuries he suffered in a road accident.

The former QPR, Watford and Burnley defender needed surgery last Tuesday after the incident involving a lorry.

His wife Gemma tweeted that he remains "very poorly."

Thank you for continuing messages of support and for media restraint. Clarke still very poorly but we're hopeful he'll make a full recovery
