This week, Dublin GAA County Board confirmed two important appointments. One of those was former inter-county star Tomas 'Mossy' Quinn has been named Commercial Manager and will work with Dublin's burgeoning sponsorship portfolio.

With Dublin having signed an €800,000 per year sponsorship deal with insurance giant AIG, there are fears that the All Ireland's champions have entered an era of domination based on their financial superiority.

To discuss this thorny issue, Ger spoke to GAAconomics author Michael Moynihan and sportswriter Ewan McKenna.

Moynihan believes the appointment of Mossy and co is "common sense" from Dublin's County Board. But he also believes that other counties should look into following their lead.

"Dublin GAA is a multi-million euro business and if you didn't have somebody specifically to mind that brand, then that business would be remit. So we shouldn't be surprised that Dublin have been proactive in this," said Moynihan, before continuing, "To me the big surprise is that other counties don't do it. There is a perception that there are a lot of resources available to Dublin - and there are - and that there aren't those resources available to other smaller counties. To me that suggests that they should appoint people to harvest the resources that they can."

But is the potential there for other counties to follow Dublin's lead? Or is it even possible that counties like Meath, Louth and Laois will band together, acquire bumper sponsorship deals which they can pool together?

Ewan McKenna fielded that point, saying:

"The problem other county boards are having is that Dublin are doing everything right. Other counties can't replicate what Dublin are doing. And even if you talk to people from bigger counties like Kildare and Meath. They even have trouble getting one sponsor. You have to look at them from the perspective of a business. What are they going to get out of sponsoring Kildare? Whereas there is something there based on Dublin's numbers and brand. And the worry is that this is only the beginning of it. Dublin's blue wave goes through to 2017 and is slowly submerging the rest of the country."
