The Camogie Association says it will poll its members on the proposed layout for the season ahead.

Many had expressed disappointment with the initial proposals for the new season, which split the inter-county campaigns.

The plans indicated that the National Leagues would kick off the delayed season, before club championships take place.

Then, the All-Ireland inter-county championships would take place at the end of the year.

However, a poll of GPA members showed that 82pc of players backed a split-season model.

This would be similar to plans the GAA has in place, with inter-county competitions taking place first before the club championships begin around the country.

In response to the dismay of many members, the Camogie Association has today addressed the issue with a statement.

They say they are of the belief that the current plan matches their priority - but they have committed to taking a poll of members to gauge their reaction.

"The Camogie Association’s priority is to maximise meaningful games opportunity for all of our members," it reads, "and to do this in a fair and equitable manner.

"One that ensures games for the county player, and games for the club player.

"Our proposed fixture list is designed to achieve this.

"However over the last 48 hours there has been disquiet from the GPA and our inter-county players in relation to our fixture calendar.

"To gain clarity on the path the entire association wants to take during this COVID-19 time, we have decided to poll our members over the next seven days.

"This poll will be carried out through all Camogie clubs, and the result will guide our fixture calendar.

"Details of this process will follow."
