Cameroon have been given an indefinite suspension from international football.

FIFA have handed down the punishment because of government interference in the country's football federation.

Earlier, they had returned to the top of their World Cup qualifying group with a game to play after the governing body overturned a defeat to Togo, who were found to have fielded an ineligible player.

"The FIFA emergency committee has decided to provisionally suspend the Cameroonian Football Association with immediate effect on account of government interference," FIFA said in a statement.

The suspension will be lifted once interference is put to an end according to FIFA.

The Indomintable Lions have fallen foul of FIFA regulations before particularly in relation to kits.

In 2002 and 2006, they their saw sleeveless and one-piece kits banned by FIFA for breaching regulations.
