Channel 4 has denied 'The Island with Bear Grylls' is fake. The show features 'ordinary' men who have to survive on an island in the Pacific. They are left to fend for themselves to find 'fire, food, water and shelter'.
Among the cast are trained camera men. The viewers were told: 'Three of the men are trained cameramen but they will be living in exactly the same conditions as everyone else.'
It's now been revealed two of these men have worked with Grylls on previous survival shows. While viewers hadn’t been told the water supply comes from a rubber-lined pool put there by the production crew.
In a statement last night Channel 4 said: 'It clearly states in the programme voiceover that trained crew are part of the experiment, living under exactly the same conditions as the other men. Like all of the men on the Island, their professions are captioned on screen and their backgrounds are discussed. Biographies are also on the Channel 4 website.'
Addressing the water supply and reports extra crocodiles were brought to the island, Channel 4 said: 'We had to ensure the island's only water supply, a muddy pool, would last through filming in the dry season and that there was enough native animals and native vegetation that could sustain the men for 28 days, as long as they had the ingenuity to find it, catch it and kill it.'
