Bubba Watson has taken to social media to apologise after the comments he made following his missed cut at the 2017 Masters.

The Florida golfer has won at Augusta twice before, earning the green jacket in 2012 and 2014.

But this year, it proved a much tougher assignment as Watson as a 74 in his opening round was followed up by a 78 on Friday to leave him on 8-over for the tournament and outside the cut mark.

Clearly frustrated, the 38 year old had some words for a golf writer he spoke to in the aftermath.

He was quoted as saying, “Golf is tough; I don’t know if you’ve ever played it. But writing articles is easy.”

Putting it down as a bad attempt at humour, Watson has since apologised for his comments in a Facebook video, saying, "Golf is hard. And if Bubba Watson tried to write an article, that would be very hard."

He also added "I love all journalists".
