Stoke have announced that former Irish international Stephen Ireland is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The midfielder suffered a broken leg in training this morning, which has brought a premature end to his season.
In an update on the club's website said: "We can confirm that Stephen Ireland has sustained a broken leg in training this morning and is now facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
"The Club wishes Stephen a speedy recovery and will offer him all the support he requires as he undergoes his rehabilitation."
Ireland's Stoke contract expires in the summer of 2017 and he has been a bit-part figure this season, finishing the Premier League campaign with 13 appearances.
