Ireland's Fionnuala Britton had to settle for 8th place tonight in the women's 10,000 metres at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich.

The former European Cross Country Champion could not stand the increase in tempo over the final 1,500 metres as 40-year-old Jo Pavey won for Team GB in a time of 32:22.39.

Britton crossed the line in a season's best time of 32:32.45.
