Brian Lenihan has signed a new one year contract at Hull City.

The new deal comes with the option of a further year.

The former Cork City defender has played just once for the Tigers' first team and had knee surgery last summer.

Lenihan has been capped at under-21 level by Ireland and also received a surprise call up to the senior team for a Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar although he did not receive any game time.

The 22 year old joined Hull in 2014 after making the breakthrough at Cork City and was then loaned out to Blackpool where he made two 90 minutes appearances during the 2014-15 season.

Last April the right back made his first team debut for Hull in a Championship game against Bolton Wanderers, featuring for the full 90 minutes.

Hull are currently 18th in the Premier League after a 2-0 loss to Sunderland at the weekend.

However, they are just one point from safety behind 17th place Swansea City with two more games to go against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park and Tottenham at the KCOM Stadium.

Middlesbrough and Sunderland have already been relegated, leaving Hull attempting to avoid remaining in the final relegation place.
