Kilkenny manager Brian Cody believes his side were beaten by the better team as Tipperary took the 2016 All-Ireland hurling crown.

All-Ireland final day tends to end in joy for Cody more often than not but speaking to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan after the game, he felt Tipp were deserved winners on the day.

"That's always the way it is. The better team always wins these matches. There's no ifs, there's no buts or maybes. We were beaten by the better team and that was it," he said.

After a first half which left Tipp marginally in front, Cody felt his own side weren't able to push on his the second half.

"There are no excuses. There are no if onlys. We went out with our best team, they went out with their best team and their team was better," he added.
