New Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says he turned down opportunities in the Premier League to take over at the Scottish champions.

The former Liverpool boss says making an impact on European football will be one of his big aims and says it's the ideal place to continue his managerial career.

"For me, the objective is pretty clear – to continue the domination of Scottish football and also to make an impact in European football. The traditions of Celtic being the first British team to win the European Cup is very important and there have been many great European nights here at Celtic Park, so that opportunity to revive those fortunes, to get into the Champions League and to continue with Scottish football domination - it’s pretty clear what the objectives are," he said.

He also stated that opportunities at home and abroad had come up as options but that Celtic chief executive Peter Lawell sold a vision of the club to him.

"I had opportunities to stick down south in the Premier League or go abroad, but after Peter called me once Ronny’s announcement [had been made], out of respect, I spoke to him and when I met, they sold the club to me."
