Until it was shown on Monday night on television, only 3,068 people had seen the best goal of the opening weekend of League of Ireland action.

Brandon Miele scored Shamrock Rovers' opening goal in their 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers in The Showgrounds. Miele's free-kick flew into the top-left corner of the goals giving Micheal Schlingermann very little chance.

With the lack of cameras in grounds, most fans have to wait two or three days to see goals that could be freely available in minutes in other leagues. Cork City's game against Bohemians was shown live on television on Friday night and the goals were freely available online after Cork's 2-0 win.

Brandon Miele or Shamrock Rovers may not score a better goal this season than the one scored in The Showgrounds. It can only be good for the league to have goals like Miele's in the public domain as quickly as possible.

Understandably, television stations want to keep content exclusive, but the leaking of certain goals would surely increase viewership on a programme like Soccer Republic. If interviews can be teased on programmes in the days before broadcast, why can goals not get the same treatment?
