Former Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins has had to pull out of Channel 4's The Jump after breaking his leg in training.

The 36-year-old, who only retired in recent months was competing in the television show in Austria. Wiggins revealed on Sunday night, the he had to pull out of the event, via an Instagram post.

"I have a small leg fracture and need to rest for 3/6 weeks. Good news no surgery or cast required. ”¬No horror smash, small training injury which means I can't compete!"

Before the show began, Wiggins was asked if he was worried about getting injured on the show. He admitted he was well aware of the dangers of winter sports before signing up to compete.

"People go skiing and hurt themselves all the time, it’s the nature of the sport."

The Jump has a history of contestants injuring themselves on the show. Last year, Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington left the show due to a dislocated shoulder, while World Champion gymnast Beth Tweddle needed neck surgery while practising for the event.
