A Spanish court has ordered over 200 blood bags from a major doping scandal to be handed over to authorities for investigation following a successful appeal against destroying the evidence.

The bags will now be examined by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA), world cycling governing bodies, and the Italian Olympic Committee.

The bags were recovered after the offices of Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes were raided nearly ten years ago.

Speaking to Sky News, Richard Newman explained that the bags were evidence of a huge doping network in cycling, but that there's now potential for more details to come out, as Dr. Fuentes claimed that he had worked with athletes from other sports also.

According to Spanish sports daily Marca, Eufemiano Fuentes and Ignacio Labarta, who were sentence to prison and barred from practicing medicine, have now been acquitted, meaning that Funtes could return to work as a sporting doctor.
