FIFA president Sepp Blatter has admitted it was a mistake to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

It looks increasingly likely that the tournament will be moved from summer to winter, due to extreme temperatures in the Gulf state.

Blatter told Swiss TV channel RTS that "everyone makes mistakes".

He said FIFA's executive committee were well aware of the heat in the summer, but that they still went ahead and voted for Qatar.

"Of course, it was a mistake. You know, one makes a lot of mistakes in life," said the FIFA chief.
