Picks for this week

Back in Time for Dinner, BBC Two, Tuesday, 8pm

A documentary on BBC which looks at a different decade every week. This week, they're on the 80s now but its a six part series.

The family, the Robshaws and their home are given a 1980s makeover, with a gadget-filled kitchen including an enormous microwave oven. Giles Coren and food historian Polly Russell use the national food survey to guide the family's diet and introduce them to the culinary treats and trends of the decade, with technology giving them the chance to make their own fizzy drinks and produce a cheese and ham toastie.

Take a trip back in time, this is definitely worth a watch. You can check out some of the older shows on their YouTube channel.

Britain's Jihadi Brides, Wednesday, BBC2, 9pm

This documentary takes a look at more than 60 young British women who have travelled to join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the radical Islamist group that has seized large swathes of territory in eastern Syria and across northern and western Iraq.

The documentary is part of the This World series

The Zoo, Thursday, RTE1, 7pm

The return of the programme that offers a look behind the scenes at Dublin Zoo. Gerry and the team are welcoming a new elephant calf, there's a new chimpanzee called Marlon on the scene and staff members step in to help rear recently hatched flamingo chicks.

Mad Men, Thursday, Sky Atlantic, 10pm

The prolific series is reaching its end and the first of the last episodes will see Don Draper struggling, once again, with his existence. Meanwhile, Peggy may have actually met the one. A lot of people have fallen out of love with the series but everyone will want to know how it ends.

The Truth about Medicine, Thursday, BBC1, 9pm

The programmes in this series previously have been absolutely amazing so now that they are examining people of Britain spending  £2.3billion every year on over-the-counter medicines for common ailments, this will certainly be an episode of interest. Chris van Tulleken checks if this kind of medication is worth the money.

Daredevil, Netflix, all episodes released on Friday. 10th April

Charlie Cox stars as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, a lawyer-by-day who fights crime at night. The series chronicles the character's early days fighting crime, juxtaposed with the rise of crime lord Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D'Onofrio. We imagine this series will go a long way towards correcting the problems with the film.

Sex and the Church, Friday, BBC2, 9pm

Diarmaid MacCulloch explores how Christianity has shaped Western attitudes to sex, gender and sexuality throughout history, beginning by examining how the early Christians transformed intercourse from a biological necessity into a vice and from a pleasure into a sin.

Biggest Band Break ups and Make Ups, Friday, BBC4, 9pm

Perhaps the one that Tom is really looking forward to the most. BBC4, the home of great music documentaries, will look at the highs and lows of life in the music industry. The presenter looks at the most common reasons for splitting up, alongside the secrets of those that manage to stay together. Remember this one?

Film of the Week

This great Alexander Payne film takes a look at a land baron in Hawaii who suddenly has to take on his daughters after his wife ends up in a coma. His wife, he discovers later, has been having an affair...
