The shock result in Europe this weekend had to be Bayern Munich's 4-1 defeat to second placed Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

Given Bayern's dominance in Germany, the scale of the defeat was hugely surprising.

But was it simply rustiness following a long winter break?

Our European football reviewer Ben Lyttleton joined us on the line to draw the conclusions from Bayern's first defeat of a fairly blemish free season.

"It was a real coming-of-age result for Wolfsburg. Not only was it a sign that Bayern were maybe going to be slow coming back to form after the winter break, but this was a true sign that Wolfsburg are secure in second place and two days after that they sign Andre Schurrle," said Ben of the Volkswagen-backed club.

He believes the financial backing the club receive from the globally-renowned car company could be looked at under UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules.

"It's smacks to me of a kind of PSG situation where PSG's defence was that their owners are also their sponsors," he said.

Ben also gave his take on one of world football's rising stars, Rafael Alcantara who starred for Barcelona against Villarreal.
