34 people died in the Belgian capital on Tuesday morning in the cities airport and underground system as multiple bombs were detonated during the morning rush hour.

Belgian captain Vincent Kompany was among the many footballers who commented on the tragedy on Tuesday.  "I wish for Brussels to act with dignity. We are all hurting, yet we must reject hate and its preachers. As hard as it may be."

The game's original cancellation came as a former Italian FA President revealed that playing Euro 2016 games behind closed doors remains an option. In November, a friendly between the Netherlands and Germany was cancelled in Hamburg hours before the game was to take place.

It has since been announced that the Portuguese FA have offered to host the game in Leiria on Tuesday evening. The Belgian FA revealed that they appreciated "the availability, flexibility and solutions offered by the Portuguese Federation".
